Cordony hairdressing family shoots for Mona Vale house price record with beachfront reserve home

Mona Vale’s record may fall for the second time this year with this beachfront reserve property that has just been listed by a well-known local family.

The Cordony family owns the longest running group of hair salons in Australia, established in 1928 by four Italian brothers and now run by the third generation.

According to property records the two-year-old house in Bassett St with direct beach access is owned by Peter Cordony, one of the directors of Cordony and Co.

Agent Duncan Schieb, of Knight Frank Sydney, said the property could take the crown for the most expensive residential real estate in Mona Vale, which currently stands at $11.75 million for 20 Rednal St, a deep waterfront property which sold last month.

In the first week on the market the Bassett St five-bedroom house on 1284sqm of land facing the Basin Beach attracted 130 inquiries, many from buyers on the fringes of Sydney looking for a beach lifestyle.

As well as the main home there is also a separate stone Tuscan style stone guesthouse, pool and never to be built out ocean views.

“Mona Vale might not have the glamour and corresponding price tags of Palm Beach and Whale Beach properties, still the quality amenities, continued infrastructure improvements and beautiful beaches make Mona Vale one of the hidden and undervalued jewels on the northern beaches,” he said.

The main house has open-plan living, dining and sitting areas with a balcony looking out to sea on one side and a covered patio beside the pool and gardens at the other.

There are polished concrete floors, handmade Moroccan tiles, mahogany for the decks and bathroom ceilings and a café-style central kitchen.

The four-car garage features a generous wine cellar and a lift takes you to both levels plus the rooftop where there are 360 degree views over the ocean and extending to Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park to the west.
